Level 0 Diagrams (LDFDs/ DFDs)

Hand out pages pages 23-34 only
Homework (Introduction) Read P. 23-34 and complete activity 3.1

  • Alternative ways to identify components include
    • create a chart with 5 columns and add items as you read the case
    • use symbols around words as reading circle around processes, square around entity, three sided rectangle around data stores and arrows under data/ informtion flows.
  • Common mistakes include adding the person following procedures and an entity. An entity must provide data to system and/ or use information to the system. Usually, cashiers, secretaries, receptionists, etc are NOT entities
As a class read and draw Level 0 diagram for Brindabella Case on p. 16. When done hand out p. 35 with answers
  • Why do we have a members and activities data store?

    • How did they identify components? - highlighting, chart, symbols?
    • What do you put in the Level 0 first?
